NEWARK -- As a senior at Freehold Township (N.J.) High, Matt Hardison was recruited by many of the East's top Division I-A college football programs.But the Division I-AA University of Delaware was interested, too, and a visit here intrigued the standout linebacker/defensive end/tight end."I didn't know too much about college football," Hardison said Monday. "I was more of a basketball kid."I liked Delaware, but with some of the schools that were recruiting me, some people in my ear said I really should go Division I-A."Hardison signed with Rutgers, but suffered a knee injury in an all-star basketball game just before his high school graduation in 2006. A move to the offensive line never felt quite right, despite periodic snaps at tight end.And when Hardison began thinking maybe he should go someplace else to complete his college football career, he thought, again, of Delaware.His recent transfer to UD considerably boosts the defensive line, where he will return. That position is viewed as the Blue Hens' greatest area of concern as they approach a season in which they expect to be in the Colonial Athletic Association and NCAA title hunts.Hardison said he also considered Bethune-Cookman, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Villanova."Now that I've [more..]
