WATER is not something that can be used only once. For thousands of years people have used the same water that you now use every day! The purification process that takes place in the natural creation, letting generation after generation enjoy pure water, reflects great wisdom. At the same time, humans have a responsibility to cooperate with this system so that it can work without undue interference. The heat from the sun evaporates water from the surfaces of the oceans, lakes and other bodies of water, as well as from damp surfaces. This evaporation lifts tremendous amounts of water vapor into the atmosphere every day. Even if these waters or surfaces happen to be dirty or salty, the vaporized water is almost pure. In time, this water returns to the earth as rain (or snow). At the same time it helps to purify the air by taking with it dust and other substances. When it reaches the ground, it gives a cleansing rinse to the vegetation and other surfaces. Some of the water flows into rivers, and some soaks into the ground. Yes, with the worldwide fascination over the awesome make up of water, humans today found better ways to [more..]
A great way to spice up your garden is to add a water feature. These can be both soothing and aesthetically appealing. I've found that there's nothing more relaxing than sitting on a bench next to my garden and listening to my fountain while I read a good book or do some studying. Putting in a water feature is fairly easy and relatively inexpensive, and will add immensely to the pleasantness of your garden. Also, the maintenance level is minimal. Usually, people install fountains for the benefit of the natural ambience it provides. For some reason, being around a gorgeous scene of water gives you a positive energy. This is also good if you practice Tai Chi or some form of yoga or meditation. The constant drone of the water is exactly what most people need to concentrate on what they are doing. Even if you're not into that kind of stuff, just being in a garden with a fountain has a sort of meditative quality to it, even if you're not trying to do so. I recommend it to anyone. When you first decide to put in a fountain, you need to put great care into picking out one [more..]
The Creator made the water that has turned the wheels of industry from the days of the watermill to the present hydraulic turbine. Man early recognized the potential energy in enormous waterfalls and in the huge waves that crashed against the coastlines of the world, but he has been limited in his efforts to control that power and turn it to his own use. Down by the old millstream may have been a romantic meeting place, but it was also the site of the watermill that ground grain into flour. The flat circular millstones connected with a wheel, which was turned by the current of the stream. Less picturesque but more efficient is the hydraulic turbine, which generates power from dammed-up water. This system is used extensively in North America, Europe and Russia. Two major hydroelectric projects are at present under way in the Dominican Republic. In the central part of the country is being constructed the Tavera complex at an estimated cost of sixty million pesos, while in the south another twenty-two million are being spent on the Valdesia project. Besides providing water for extensive irrigation, it is expected that by 1974 the completion of these projects will make [more..]
You can create amazing effects with garden-fountain lighting. You can make a fountain glow, illuminate an entire pond from within, highlight an attractive statue, or heighten the reflection of a particularly beautiful tree.Garden-fountain lights are available for installation as either inside-water or outside for water lighting. All, however, should be connected to a GFI for safety, and those used in the water should be made specifically for underwater use. Before you shop for garden fountain lights, experiment with different effects from a powerful flashlight or a spotlight on an extension cord (never place either in the water). Solar powered home appliances become more and more popular these days. Many people invest into solar powered water and pool heaters, and of course solar garden fountains. There are many benefits to having a solar fountain, but there are some downsides as well. How do solar powered garden fountains work? Usually fountains with solar pumps are very easy to install. As all solar appliances they use solar panels with Photovoltaic (PV) cells to collect energy of the sun. Since a fountain pump doesn't require a lot of energy, the panels are usually quite small. There are two main types. First are fountains where solar panels are incorporated in the design of the fountain itself. This type is the easiest to install, but you have to make sure that you place your new fountain in a sunny spot otherwise it won't work. Another type has remote solar panels, which can be positioned several meters away from the fountain. If you chose this type, it doesn't matter whether your fountain is in a sunny or shady spot as long as the panels are exposed to the sun. Most solar fountains with remote panels come with easy to set up mounting system for the panels. Usually you [more..]
