Metal Garden Furniture Metal as the material for garden furniture has a long history in the UK. However most older furniture was made of cast iron and would readily rust and require treatment. Usually a wire brush and rust treatment along with hours of painting would be the norm in Spring for the trusty metal furniture owner. With the advent of Aluminium garden furniture the situation was much improved. Aluminium does oxidize leaving chalky white deposits but needs little or no maintenance compared with iron made furniture. Aluminium garden furniture has other advantages as well as not turning your patio brown. It is light weight and easily moved to a more sunnier position. It is much more affordable than say Teak and will last a long time. I should mention that it does matter about the quality of the furniture set you buy. I have many people say to me for both metal and wooden garden furniture, "I bought my set from .... and it was only £.... and was great the first year. But when I went to it the following spring it just fell apart. You should also be aware on the cheaper versions of garden furniture the metal is hollow and water can find it's way into the [more..]

After a small adventure I had to go through with my apartment building tenants who needed some convincing, I was allowed to begin working on a roof garden at which I imagined myself spending time relaxing under the sun while conversing with friends. But since the space I was allowed to use from the roof top was not as big as the whole roof itself, I had to adjust my plans to the already permanent constructions and always come up with new ideas as I was moving along. My anxiety was reduced when I my research revealed that humans have been growing plants atop of structures since antiquity. In addition to the decorative benefit, my roof plantings would provide temperature control, architectural enhancement and recreational opportunities. The new residential garden I was creating was based on plantations placed in beautiful pots and wooden containers which I bought for a fraction of their original cost at yard sales and clearances. After walking through parks and gardening supply stores, I decided on the colors the height and the overall appearance of the plants that would go inside the pots. Specifically, I began by placing the biggest plants I bought closer to the existing [more..]
In the market for a comfortable seating selection for your outdoor space, yet want something a little different from what everyone else has? Then, a fantastic option for you are relaxing garden benches, perfect for any deck, porch, or patio area. For quite some time, garden benches could only be found in the garden and nowhere else, but over the years people have started to realize that they are actually a great choice for any space. Take your deck area for example, they would be a nice alternative seating option to single chairs sitting side by side, a group of party goers with a nice place to sit during those summer get-togethers. Another great option that you cut put one is on your front porch area, which would provide you, and the one you love, a nice spot to rest and enjoy the sights and sounds of the outdoors after that walk you take every evening. Other great places to you could put one include on the side of your house as a nice way to break of the empty, dead space, in your lawn area for a wonderful place to take a break during those lawn activities, and you [more..]

There are three different ways of gardening. One is to have your garden inside your house. The other is to use whatever space your garden has and plant your crop outside. The third way is to do your gardening under glass. This is called greenhouse gardening. Greenhouse gardening is not that different from your average outside gardening. The main consideration that you need to think about is controlling the temperature of your greenhouse. Remembering that plants thrive at temperatures that are slightly lower than what is in our houses and that they require a much higher humidity than we are used to, will let you see that your greenhouse plants get the proper environment. The best way to ensure the right amount of sunlight and heat for your greenhouse is to build it in a spot that can take advantage of the maximum amount of sunlight right throughout the year. This is especially important during the spring and fall seasons as the sun is at its lowest point in the southern sky. You should try and have your greenhouse located where the sun's rays will reach through a southeastern to southwestern direction. To ensure that ventilation flows throughout the [more..]
